Here’s what we suggest…
Who
The Ask For An Angel Shot initiative will support:
- Female university students
- Students on dates
- Bartenders, restaurant staff and volunteers who serve at university events will be trained or prepped beforehand about the AFAAS codes and bystander intervention techniques.
What
The Ask For An Angel Shot is inspired by the Iberian Rooster’s three codes and drink types:
- An Angel Shot “Neat” – Bartenders will escort you to your vehicle
- An Angel Shot “With Ice” – Bartenders will call you an Uber
- An Angel Shot “With Lime” – Bartenders will call the police
When
The Ask For An Angel Shot initiative will run all year round.
Where
You can find the Ask For An Angel Shot on campus at Roundhouse
Signs indicating how to go about ordering an angel shot will be detailed in the bathrooms.
How
We will work together with UNSW Roundhouse to initiate the AFAAS campaign at their location, and seek advice from Safe Bars HQ about bystander intervention tools that bar staff at Roundhouse can use.
Why
There continues to be cases of sexual assault and sexual harassment reported on UNSW campus. With the rise of online dating as well as the alcohol-culture at universities this indicates the need for improved education and a cultural shift when it comes to womens rights. Thus, Ask For An Angel Shot is a step in the right direction, offering women a means to protect themselves, guarantee their safety and minimise cases of sexual harassment and assault.
